VOLUNTEER IN THE COMPUTER LAB

What do computer lab volunteers do?
Computer lab volunteers assist students in signing in to the computer lab, logging onto the computer, and getting started using their English language tutorial program.

What computer skills do I need?
Basic knowledge of computers is required. Training on our software applications will be provided.

What would my schedule be?
We primarily need computer lab volunteers during the late afternoon and evening hours. If you are interested, we will find a time that suits you.

Are you interested in teaching a computer literacy class?
Please talk with a staff member about this.  You do not have to be an IT person to do this.  All you need is a basic knowledge of computers.

Tutor Training - Get started this fall!

Saturday, Jan 7th  9:oo to 2:3o pm for information and to register: 01/07/2017

All training is held at the Literacy Council 216 N. Hayne Street in Historic Downtown Monroe  View Map

Compassionate and enthusiastic instructors (tutors) are critical to the process of helping the Literacy Council's adult students achieve their literacy goals.
This training willl provide general information about adult literacy and explain how we provide ‘contextualized instruction’ to students. Our learning model helps men and women who read below a 12th grade reading level achieve life skill goals related to parenting, employment, civic engagement and health. Students--those who speak English and those who want to learn to speak English as a new language--meet these goals through the improvement of their English language skills.
Our goal for training is to give you the information you will need to complete the first six months of instruction.Once, matched with a student, the Council provides a curriculum teacher’s guide, student book and workbooks.

Register using the link above or send questions to .
