The project objective is to provide instruction that will accelerate achievement in students’ English language and literacy skills within the contexts of computer literacy, career exploration, and community engagement. The ultimate goal is for students to apply the new knowledge to their daily lives, leading to greater independence and self-sufficiency.
To meet this objective, students will need guidance from their tutor, staff, and workshop presenters.
Any Civics Track instructional activities should be noted on the Student Learning Plan and/or monthly hours reports, as appropriate.

COMPUTER LITERACY
Goal: To ensure every student has access to and instruction on technology skills needed to participate in daily life.
What does success look like? A student will demonstrate basic computer skills and knowledge.
Success is documented on the student's Computer Skills Goalsetting document.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Goal: To enable every student to reach individual potential in their daily lives as successful parents and community members
. What does success look like? A student will participate in related instructional activities. These may include participating in workshops, using websites, and receiving direct instruction from a tutor.
Activities:
Tour South Piedmont Community College and sample “Free College Day” (in partnership with SPCC)
Participate in free, on-site health screenings (in partnership with Community Health Services)
Tour of the Union County Public Library that includes information on getting a library card
Participate in "Summer Literacy," an summer literacy program for parents and their children
Use immigration forms and other related materials for those interested in citizenship
Attend English Club, a weekly drop-in conversation class
Participate in the annual United Way Day of Caring
