Reporting Your volunteer instruction hours
Why do we ask for student attendance hours?
When a student's attendance pattern changes it often signals a problem. Students lose motivation, their work schedules change, family issues interfere with classes, or their goals change. When any of these things happen, the student often has to be reminded of the connection between their instruction and their goals. The reasons are as varied as the number of students. The Council doesn't just track the hours of instruction each month we track attendance patterns over time in an attempt to intervene early enough to retain the student. It is critical we have the data necessary to do this and it is the most important reason we ask you to report your time and to report it in a timely way..
Thank you for helping us help students stay engaged so they can continue to learn and reach their goals.
The other reasons/way the data is needed and used:
Thank you for helping us to be good stewards!
Please total hours for the month, and then round to the nearest quarter hour, using decimals (e.g., 3.75, 0.25, 2.50).
Reports are due by the 5th of each month for the preceding month. Be sure to include any questions or comments at the bottom of this page. Thank you!

The other reasons/way the data is needed and used:
- Student testing organizations (TABE and CASAS) recommend at least 60 instruction hours be completed between tests.
- Students are most successful on their tests when they have had recent instruction. We look at your reported hours to ensure the student testing is appropriately timed.
- Our funding greatly depends on it. The foundations and grantors request program numbers so they can gauge the impact of their investment in our mission. In other words, our funding greatly depends on it.
- Our accrediting organization, ProLiteracy, requires an annual report hours of volunteer service and student instruction hours.
- For staff and board, tracking hours helps us to plan program, personnel, and operational needs.
