Because research shows increasing literacy benefits:
local employers: levels in workers (at all levels of employment) increases job productivity.
community: increases in literacy skills increases community involvement
future generations: a child's literacy level is closely correlated to its parents'
Because our students:
are those with the lowest levels of literacy
most do not (yet!) have the requisite academic language, test-taking or study skills necessary for college degree or certification programs.
many have barriers to high duration educational programs: reliable transportation, childcare, and shifting job schedules....
It is for all of these reasons, that the Literacy Council is a lifeline for so many in Union County who work hard to improve their lives by improving their language skills, academic skills, and workplace productivity.
We welcome any and all levels of support from the commercial community of Union County. We also welcome invitations for literacy instruction at your location in Union County for your workforce.
Do you have questions or want to know more about workplace literacy programs? Send a note to Executive Director Suzanne Hearn at or call 704-226-1425.
Thank you for your consideration!
